When people find out I work for lululemon, there are two typical responses I get. The first type of response is the curious one “Really? What’s it like? Do you have to do yoga and crossfit and drink green juice 24/7?” (psst…. no girl…) The second type of response is one that is a little more admiring. It usually sounds like “No way, that’s awesome, I LOVE my Align pants”. The company I work for has a variety of different reputations, but I genuinely only have positive things to say. I take pride in living the #sweatlife, and working for a company that I really love.
I’ve made amazing connections with my coworkers, tried new workouts, and met guests who I’ve felt inspired by. Hey, maybe I’ve met the person reading this now through lululemon! Along with these daily fulfilling experiences, lululemon has taught me so much more about myself.
Our shoppers (bags you get to take your new goodies home in) are infamous for being reused for office lunches, grocery runs, or even makeshift gym bags. If you have a shopper lying around your bedroom, pick it up and read it. The words printed on the outside are the lululemon manifesto, which the company explains as a way we share our culture with the community, and an evolving collection of bold thoughts that allow for some real conversations to take place.
Without further ado, here are 6 things I’ve learned from a lululemon bag.
GRATITUDE IS CONTAGIOUS
When you start practicing gratitude daily, even if you are just being thankful for the little things, it adds up. Gratitude attracts an endless flow of more to be grateful for!
VULNERABILITY MAKES A GOOD LEADER GREAT
Vulnerability is one of my core values. Making yourself vulnerable, or even showing weakness in a leadership role, demonstrates courage and strength
IGNORE THE HATERS, INCLUDING YOURSELF
Ignore that negative little voice inside your head until you silence it.
DO ONE THING THAT SCARES YOU
Always choose the option that puts you a little outside of your comfort zone. Go to that class, compliment a stranger, ask for a raise… If it scares you, you will grow.
PUT YOUR PHONE AWAY, THE REAL WORLD IS NOT ON HOLD
Whenever I read this, I think of this guy I used to talk to. We’ll call him John. A few months ago I saw he went to a concert and uploaded the ENTIRE THING to his Snapchat story. Don’t be like John.
DANCE, SING, FLOSS, TRAVEL
I always laugh inside when I read this, but there is beauty in the simplicity of it. Dancing & singing = happiness, flossing = health, and travel = wealth. What more could you need?
Which one of these aspects of the manifesto resonates with you most? Leave a comment! Better yet, find a lululemon shopper and find another mantra that you love.
